Renji was born to a modest but respected Raen family in a small Doman province nestled near the eastern rivers. His father served as a retainer to a noble Doman lord, and from a young age, Renji was groomed in the art of the sword not simply to fight, but to uphold duty, discipline, and honor.At the age of sixteen, Renji was taken into his lord’s service, officially recognized as a samurai in training. Under his lord’s tutelage, he learned more than just combat he was taught poetry, etiquette, and the quiet strength required of those who serve with loyalty.But that peace did not last.When the Garlean Empire invaded Doma, his province was among the first to fall. Renji fought alongside his lord until the bitter end, defending their homeland in a hopeless stand. His lord fell in battle, and Renji bloodied and shamed was forced to flee into the countryside. With no master to serve, no province to return to, and his family slain or scattered, he became a ronin, a masterless samurai.He wandered for years through the scars of war, acting as a sword-for-hire, a protector to villagers, and sometimes a ghost to the empire's forces striking where he could, vanishing like the wind. Despite the fall of Doma, he refused to give up the code he was raised with.Eventually, his path crossed with an Eorzean company known as the Starlit Knights and Adventurer's guild. That later became known as New Dawn, a group known to take in those who have no where else to go.Now, he serves New Dawn as both blade and mentor, carrying with him the legacy of his fallen homeland not through mourning, but by living as a samurai should: with honor, strength, and compassion.
